Valerie Johnson is a molecular diagnostics scientist, STEM ambassador, and founder of Valerie The Scientist™, an education platform dedicated to expanding access, representation, and opportunity in science. With over 20 years of experience in life sciences—including molecular diagnostics, microbiology, biotechnology, and laboratory automation—Valerie has worked across clinical laboratories, global biotech organizations, and field applications supporting patient testing and public health initiatives.
Her career spans roles within industry-leading companies and academic medical centers, where she has contributed to diagnostic innovation, laboratory workflow optimization, and STEM workforce development. But Valerie’s journey into science was not traditional—she openly shares that she was not a top student and barely graduated college. That lived experience fuels her mission to show students that success in STEM is not reserved for the “perfect” student, but for the persistent one.
Through dynamic workshops, immersive field experiences, and honest storytelling, Valerie connects classroom learning to real-world careers in biotechnology, healthcare, and public health. She empowers students to see themselves in science—not just as observers, but as future leaders.
